Stupid Laws, Stupid People, Number 1

Stupidity knows no bounds, so from time to time I will post some of the outrageous things that are done or proposed by people who think they are acting in your best interest.

Here is the maiden sampling of stupid:

NY – Legislator Proposes Ban on Doctors’ Ties: NY State Senator Jeffrey Klein (D-Bronx) and three colleagues proposed a bill to ban doctors from wearing ties.  The bill would create an expert commission to draft germ-reducing dress codes, according to the New York Post.

So, if neckties are bad, how about pants?  Personally, I don’t want to see my father’s seventy year old pulmonologist naked the next time I take him for an exam.  Do we really need another bureaucracy to define a dress code into law or can we just let the hospitals handle it themselves?  You decide.

MA – No Sex for the Divorcing!: The Massachusetts legislature has a bill pending that would bar divorcing couples with children from having sex in their own home.  Parents that wish to have sex would need to get a judge’s approval.

Paul Revere’s new ride – “The Puritans are coming! The Puritans are coming!” (with judge’s approval)

CA – I Don’t Care if You Have Been Doing it for Three Thousand Years, You Can’t Do it Here!: Beautiful San Francisco, land of the loonies, proposes a ban on male circumcision.  Any San Francisco loony convicted of this gross genital mutilation can be fined up to $1,000 or go to jail for up to one year.

It doesn’t matter if it was good enough for Jesus, what does the Koran say?

Ont – Happiness is Being Confused as Hell!: a Toronto couple has decided to not tell anyone whether their baby is a boy or a girl.  The baby should be able to develop its own sexual identity without having to conform to social stereotypes, said its parents, so they named it Storm.

So much for parental guidance and responsibility.  Ship it off to San Francisco.  At least it can be assured that its genitals will not be mutilated.
